Review of Mark Bradford in Art Papers

December 9, 2012

My review of Mark Bradford’s Two Videos installation at the Fabric Workshop in Philadelphia appears in the November/December Art Papers.  From the review:  “A surge of discourse around the politics of the body and public protest rose from the aftermath of Egypt’s democracy demonstrations in Tahir Square and the Occupy Wall Street movement…Harking back to the feminist axiom ‘the personal is political,’ the young black man walking down a street in Bradford’s video (as well as the unseen act of crossing to the other side in fear) summons our deepest prejudices.  It does not exist as an individual act, but instead as a collective threat to society.”
